Stress

Psychological stress can powerfully alter the function of all the major systems within the body. The gastrointestinal system is particularly sensitive to psychological stress, where it is known to cause common symptoms such as indigestion, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation. Stress is also associated with symptoms that are frequently experienced in gastroparesis, including nausea and vomiting, and delayed gastric emptying. It is not known if stress alone can cause gastroparesis, but it will certainly exacerbate the symptoms.
